Discomfort with feeding

Your baby may be showing signs of discomfort when they are feeding and you are worried it is being caused by your breastmilk, formula feed, an allergy or intolerance or you are not sure. Our dietitians are experts in feeding babies and an assess and treat them according to the cause of their discomfort when feeding.

What are the causes of discomfort with feeding?

There are an array of reasons why your baby may be experiencing discomfort with feeding such as positioning during feeding, wind, bloating, reflux or an underlying intolerance or allergy. Our specialist dietitians can assess your baby and find the cause for their discomfort.

What do you assess for discomfort with feeding?

Our dietitian will assess your baby’s feeding regimen, intake, positioning and behaviour to help find the route cause of their discomfort with feeding. Our dietitian will assess their dietary intake, growth and nutritional intake to ensure they are growing to their full potential despite their discomfort during feeding. Our dietitian will assess and diagnose any underlying allergies or intolerances which could cause your baby's discomfort when feeding and provide an individualised treatment plan to suit them.

What is the treatment for discomfort with feeding?

The treatment for discomfort with feeding with depend on the cause. Our specialist feeding team will assess your baby for any allergies and intolerances and give you an individualised treatment plan to reduce any discomfort they are having. This treatment will reduce any symptoms they are having and aim for them to optimise their nutritional intake to ensure your baby reaches their full growth potential.
